I chose a recent editorial in the Pueblo Chieftain. There were not many to pick one so I settled on one that was about the El Centro del Quinto Sol on Pueblo’s east side. Recently, this center has lost its director and the city is unsure about what to do with the center. The person who wrote the article argues that La Gente, a program that runs youth events, should get to manage the center.
This argument rests at Conjecture, and needs detailed information about the history of La Gente programs in order to further the argument. The writer is attacking the others who think that the center should be handled by the city’s parks and recreation department or some other organization other than La Gente. Also, the author says that just because the director of La Gente has some familial ties with the Council President, some are not approving of La Gente, even though, in the author’s opinion, it would be the best choice to take over the center. The writer can achieve stasis with his opponents given the way he has stated his issue and the ground on which he has taken his stand.

Hi Hannah!
Great article -- I like that you chose a topic that is relevant to the Pueblo area. Nice...
HOWEVER -- you might need to re-think Chapter 3 and the discussion/explanation of stasis theory -- unless I misunderstood your thoughts here?
For example, since you suggest that the author aggressively attacks residents who made some pretty harsh assertions about the La Gente(in fact, you write that his -- her? -- argument rests at "conjecture"), including nepotism, is stasis really possible -- at least based on what is here? Will these two sides (those who support La Gente running the Center and those who do not) be able to ever reach common ground? --DR. SOUDER
This is a good topic becaus it's local and to some people in the community it probably is a very big issue. I personally think the memebers of the center should choose who gets to run the center because they are the one's that spend their time there. The author of the editorials opinion would be stronger if he wrote why he cares so much about the issue.
I agree, there weren't many articles to choose from in the Chieftan. What type of center was it? If it was youth oriented I don't see why La Gente shouldn't manage it.
Hey we did the same article! I agree that this article needs more to be convincing. It seems as if the author is bashing the individuals he is working with, but has no argument! It sounds like he is just throwing a fit. He skips over details just so he can elaborate on his side. I think this type of selfish writing will never lead to stasis and probably never lead anywhere positive. The best thing about this editorial is it shows how not to have an argument!
